Another great class last night at Essex Fighting Arts www.essexfightingarts.weebly.com
Good to see over the past couple of weeks everyone get to grips with lockflow (pardon the pun). So we continued with hubud as there's just so much that can come from just 'one for one hubud. To recap yesterday we worked on switches from right to left and visa versa. Figure 4 locks, kotegeshi, nikyo, arm breaks, Ron Balicki's parallel can't lock, waki gatami and more.
Locks are great and these flow drills are perfect for drilling in muscle memory so when a lock presents itself, you'll just feel it and execute. One point someone asked yesterday is what if a lock doesn't work on a given person? Then adapt and change to something different or as my sensei Steve Merrett would say "When in doubt, hit them!". So the more time you spend in one place 'trying to make a lock work', the more time you've given your opponent to also counter and hit you. To coin a phrase from a slightly well known martial artist "Be like water" When you put water in a tea pot, it becomes the tea pot, you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend!
See you all next week, ouss...
