A great class last night at Essex Fighting Arts and another video looking at a frenzied knife attack or peppering with a knife. This was of course after I had already done one bloody video only to realise the phone was on selfie mode. 😂😂😂 These techniques were taken from Guro Ron Balicki and his take on what you would need to do when there's no options left and you're fighting for your life from this kind of attack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1kQbK2FhMc&list=PLKWbT-_vwFTxjdPu1L2Nw39tHPETwvH48&index=23&t=0s
We continued to train in these techniques but the main thing was aside from the attention to detail and how we can move into other techniques with a semi-compliant training partner. This was more about reacting to the attack with speed and aggression, but also committing to whatever you have decided to do unless the game changes. Wrist locks would be snapped on aiming to break rather than just cause pain, strikes would be hard and aggressive, eye gauges used and disorientation techniques with seamless interchange between movements not giving your opponent time to re-focus and counter what you are doing to them. NOTE: If you managed to strip the knife (disarm) then you CANNOT in the eyes of the law attack them with the knife as you have removed the threat (unless they have friends) and this would be deemed as pre-meditated. However, as I said on the video ‘it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6’ which are the words of my Sensei back in the day ‘Steve Merrett’.
From here we moved on to some Gaja (elephant) techniques coming from jab / cross attacks which we will continue next week. Hope you all enjoyed the class, have a great week and weekend and will see you all next Tuesday! Ouss…
