An excellent class last night and another video created to answer some confusing over the last knife video I did which was about a knife sensitivity drill called ‘Dikit’ which teaches sensitivity and reaction to movement, energy and getting used to dealing with a knife. This is stated in the video, but I cannot emphasise enough that if you are faced with someone who intends to harm you and is carrying a knife, first and foremost give them what they want. Give them your wallet if that’s what they want, your money, your phone or any personal possessions they have asked for as it is just not worth getting involved with a knife if you do not have too. At the end of the day, your life is more important and personal possessions can be replaced. Secondly, if you can get away, into a house, car or somewhere safe or run and never stop running until you know that you are safe. Another reason why you should improve / maintain your fitness as then you will have the ability to run away.
Here's the scary bit. What do you do if you cannot run, if the possessions you have are not enough for them and your life is still on the line and you have nowhere to hide? This is where training in martial arts helps and training knife work, getting used to dealing with and getting attachments on limbs / hands. Learning how to effectively strike so working on kick / Thai boxing skills as well as fighting dirty so eye gauging and street fighting. Working on your fight fitness to prepare your body for fight or flight so you have endurance, speed and power. Learning locks, chokes and take downs and totally commit 110%!! DO NOT just give your life to them if you have no other option, hone your skills and fight as you have never before. Of course there is no guarantees, but I know I would much rather train on all the elements of fighting with or without weapons to keep the muscle memory and reaction time as good as it can be. At the end of the day, I would rather have all the skills and never have to use them, than not have the skills when I need them the most. Bruce Lee said ‘Better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war’.

During last night’s class we went through some challenging pad work and well done Paul for keeping up with me on the pads and doing two rounds or both left and right stance even though he was blowing out of his a*se at some points understandably. Ha ha! After we went through Sumbrada six count and then ten count which was great fun with a few bruised knuckles. Was a great class and looking forward to next week, why not come along and give it a go. Have a great week and weekend, see you next Tuesday. Ouss…
